This piece is designed to make efficient use of a small bathroom.  The left and right consoles are set back to give clearance for the toilet and door, respectively.  The basin is lowered to allow a mirrored cabinet door to swing open above the faucet.  Elm is a rot-resistant wood that will weather the damp conditions of a bathroom very well over the years.  This is a good example of how a piece of furniture or cabinetry can be well designed to fit into, and be useful in, a particular space.  Because the cabinet is free-standing the clients can take it with them should they ever decide to move.
