This settee was designed to pair with the Ming Coffee Table.  Details include birds-mouth joints at posts, three-dimensional curve of arm rest support and tapered bend on rear posts.  Made from Oregon Black Walnut with fabric sourced from Soliloquy of Portland, OR.
Created from a single board of Oregon black walnut, the stark and delicate lines counter the complex and whimsical root-figure panels.  Pear inlay banding at once delineates the triptych and brings the piece together.  Measures 18" T x 22" W x 48.5" L.
This piece is a direct interpretation of a classic Chinese table from the era of the Ming Dynasty.  The use of Port Orford cedar for the molding to contrast with the black walnut is an attempt to shed a modern light on the design.  Triple miters at the post & rail joints are the key to the timelessness of this simple design.
